KRiMZ: "Run and gun — that's when we play our best"

1
We grabbed Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson fresh off Fnatic's victory against Flipsid3 to talk about the why there's only one Swedish team at the Major, who he thinks is the best, and what Fnatic worked on during their bootcamp in Krakow.
Fnatic just defeated Flipsid3 in the first game. It looked unstable in the beginning, but you managed to close it out in solid fashion. What happened?

— We started out by playing cowardly as CT, however, I would still say that we picked up ourselves as we managed to get 7 before the end of the half. After that, we just drove in our own race as we continued to mash them down. We obviously felt that the CT side was not how we were supposed to play and realized that we only need to "run and gun" - that's when we play our best.

You're coming from ESL One Cologne where you lost to Mousesports, Faze and finally SK Gaming. You've been at a bootcamp here in Krakow, what have you sharpened to give you the upper edge at the major?

— Everything. We have redone a lot in a short amount of time. We have developed what works and what we're best at. We'll see how it will end, but hopefully, it gives us some advantage.

You are the only Swedish team in this tournament, something that feels unnatural to Counter-Strike. Have Swedish teams got worse or have the other teams got better?

— Definitely both. On our part, I can blame the Godsent split. I think all the teams have become better and we have stepped down a little. It's fun to see that people have become better because in our era, all we did was run and gun. Now, we need to adapt more.

Which teams do you think are the best, and perhaps fearsome at this event?

— Astralis, Faze and SK. They are really annoying. Faze is an easier task but they are still very good individually. An underdog team that I would really avoid is Vega Squadron, they seem to bulldoze everything and it's really hard to keep track of. I'm not afraid of anyone, you need to win them all.

You have just lost vuggo, who used to be your coach before Jumpy stepped in. Who stresses about drinking water?

— I guess it would be Jumpy. It's sad that he chose to work at Fragbite, haha. Nah, all respect to him, he did a really good job with us. I would say that there were no tasks left for him. When we took in Jumpy, he would sit at home, do a couple of tasks and would be done for the day. So I totally understand him in his decision but I would still like to give a lot of respect to him for helping us.

Thanks for the interview, the last words are yours.

— Thanks to everyone who are cheering and looking for us.
Go Sweden!
