Day 3: The high ground, the middle ground, and the elimination pit

1
The Eleague Major in Atlanta has been bringing us a plethora of world class Counter-Strike action for the past three days, so let's run through yesterday results before we get immersed in rooting for our Pick'Em Challenge teams.
Day three was pivotal in the development of the Eleague Major, bestowing on us two teams who advanced to the playoffs, as well as two eliminated teams later today.

The high ground

Two teams have won their third game yesterday, completing a record of 3-0 to directly advance to playoffs.

Sitting on top is Na`Vi, who faced SK on Dust2, in what was an unexpectedly uneven match.

We have previously praised SK's performance during the Major and any statement claiming that SK won't reach double digits would have been harshly dismissed by the majority.

Life is tough, and so are Egor "flamie" Vasilyev and Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev. The duo single handedly made a coffin for the Brazilians (Vasilyev even scored an ace), and their teammates hit the last nail.

Na`Vi lost the Grand Final of the last Major (MLG Columbus) to the Brazilians, who were playing under Luminosity at the time, and there's no better way to advancing to the playoffs than having a sweet little revenge.

Brasilien SK Gaming vs. Europa Na`Vi
SK: coldzera, FalleN, fer, fox, TACO
Na`Vi: Edward, flamie, GuardiaN, s1mple, seized

The second team to advance to the playoffs is Virtus.pro, who beat Gambit on Train.

22 years old Abay "HObbit" Khasenov enjoys his stardom with exquisite performances, but Rustem "mou" Teplov had a poor showing.

Too bad he's on a lease, but that won't be a problem if Zeus sells enough stickers

Filip "NEO" Kubski's men continued to put up big numbers and great plays, while only the leader stayed behind, his role resembling an invisible hand controlling the game.

The Poles haven't taken the mantle of the in-game leader off of Kubski in a year, and role consistency can be told by directly looking at the scoreboard.

Cis Gambit vs. Polen Virtus.pro
Gambit: AdreN, Dosia, HObbitt, mou, Zeus
VP: byali, TaZ, pasha, Neo, Snax

The middle ground

fnatic opened the day with mousesports on Dust2 - the first time the most acclaimed map of Counter-Strike would be played in this Major.

The Swedes won with the recently reunited trio of Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer, Dennis "dennis" Edman, and Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson leading the charge.

They're up 2-1, while mousesports will face elimination later on today.

mouz: chrisJ, denis, NiKo, loWel, Spiidi
Fnatic: dennis, disco doplan, krimz, olofmeister, twist

In another complete debacle yesterday, GODSENT lost to EnVyUs.

The Frenchmen shut GODSENT down on the CT side of Cache, losing only three rounds to Markus "pronax" Wallsten's side. Before they figured their game out, EnVyUs won the second pistol round and didn't let things go South.

nV: apEX, Happy, kennyS, NBK, SIXER

The death pit

North eliminated HellRaisers in arguably the closest match of the day.

The first time the match was tied was at 5-5, when Kirill "ANGE1" Karasiow. The half ended 8-7, and HR got to a quick lead into the beginning of the second half, but North caught up and the game was tied again at 11-11.

Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen capitalized on the 2vs3 victory to elevate his team to 13-11. HR kept trying, and North found themselves with a semi-buy at 14-15. That's when Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel stepped in with a UMP quad-kill defense on the B site.

In OT, North played a perfect CT side and to misery of HR's fans, stormed through the OT pistol round to stay alive 1-2 and send HR packing.

The battle of the Green

In the other elimination match, FlipSid3 fell to OpTic Gaming on train.
Despite taking the half 10-5 as well as winning the second pistol round, OpTic managed to come back from deficit and made a great 9 rounds win streak.

Maybe next time, Yegor

FlipSid3 managed to reach 13, but the Canadian-American T side was too much for Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy to deal with.
