Counter-StrikeCSESL

ESL to allow VAC banned players to compete in its events

1
Being brandished with a VAC ban has, prior to this point, effectively left players effectively dismissed from competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. But now, ESL has announced that players who have acquired VAC bans will be able to compete in its events after a two-year period.
ESL, when asked by HLTV.org confirmed that the updated ruleset will apply to its Intel Extreme Masters and ESL One events. Meaning VAC banned players will have the possibility of competing in some of the biggest CS:GO events in the world.

This does not, however, mean the players will be allowed to compete in Valve's own CS:GO Majors, which currently offer the largest prize pools in the game. The rule change from ESL is a historic one, as VAC banned players have been essentially ostracized from competing in large-scale events, in the past.

Given the fact that the infamous event known as "the VACenning", which implicated former Titan rifler Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian, occurred on Nov. 20, 2014, the new rule from ESL means that he will once again be eligible to compete at ESL events.

It doesn't seem as if the prospect of returning competitive play is something that excites the former Titan player, however, as he told HLTV.org earlier this evening that: "I do not think it will change anything, though. Even if I am allowed to play in these tournaments, it will be very hard to find people willing to trust you or an organisation wishing to take you in."

While this rule change may inspire some controversy, a conversation could now be started regarding what is considered a justifiable punishment for cheating in the competitive scene.

With numbers gaining ground on evaluating Counter-Strike players, many have become more and more wary of trusting them. Fans and analysts vocally prefer what is commonly referred to as the eye test – simply watching the game. Sounds fair, because intuitively it makes sense that watching a game will give you more information to go by than a set of numbers supposed to wrap up everything that took place on the server. But what if it's not so simple?
