Copenhagen Games 2017 kicks off today

1
Featuring teams like North Academy, female superstars Team Secret, as well as the Dreamchasers mix with benched NiP player Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi, the annual Copenhagen Games event will be starting today.
Remaining as one of the oldest LAN events in Scandinavia, the 2017 edition of Copenhagen Games will once again feature both male, and female, competitions in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The top female teams will be fighting for a total of 14 000 euro, while the male tournament will be offering its competitors 50 000 euro.

A number of well-known names have been invited to the male tournament at Copenhagen Games, as Fnatic Academy, Epsilon eSports, and the Dreamchasers mix, which features Joel "emilio" Mako. Additionally, Epsilon will be using former Renegades ringer Simon "atter" Atterstam at the event, which may result in a permanent spot on the team's main roster.

Aside from the invited teams, eight more squads will be qualifying for the main event through the LAN's BYOC tournament. Some of the more notable names in attendance are Binary Dragons, which is fronted by FaZe Clan superstar Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's cousin Nemanja “huNter” Kovač—as well as Rogue and North's academy squads.

The female tournament will feature teams such as Crowns Esports Club, Team Dignitas Female, and Team Secret. Whether or not Julia "juliano" Kiran and Team Secret will win yet another iteration of the event remains to be seen, as the competition looks to be fierce in the Danish capital.

Counter-Strike teams have traditionally been run by the players themselves, with the star players and the in-game leader often having the most say in personnel decisions. The routine stems from the days when a team comprised nothing but five players and perhaps a manager-figure, in charge of seeking sponsorships. As the game has evolved to the point where the top players all make six-figures in guaranteed salary and millions of dollars are paid out annually in prize money, little has changed.
