Teams for ECS finals set — Astralis looking to defend their title

2
Despite still having matches to be played in Europe, the eight participants for the ECS Season 3 finals have been determined.
Four teams from Europe, and just as many from North America, have secured their spots for the third season of Esports Championship Series, ECS, final tournament. In the European division, FaZe Clan have guaranteed the first place — with two more match-ups to go. Astralis and Fnatic have played all of their 18 maps, and are not threatened to drop below the line.

The fourth team is G2 Esports, who also have two more matches to play. No matter how that match-up goes, they will still be eligible for the finals since they managed to survive the threat of NiP Gaming — who yielded two stand-ins from Na`Vi in yesterday's 1-1 game — to secure enough points for the finals. G2 can still place second in the group over Astralis and Fnatic though, as they are close enough in points with two more matches to go. These matches will be against Virtus.pro, who are struggling to survive another season in ECS.

As opposed to Europe, all matches have been played in the North American division. Cloud9 and SK Gaming both finished on 13 wins, but the North American team got the first place by having a better round difference. Third place went to Team Liquid, and they will also be accompanied by the fourth-placed OpTic Gaming.

ECS Season 3 finals

Europa FaZe Clan (#1 EU)
Danmark Astralis (#2-4 EU)
Sverige Fnatic (#2-4 EU)
Frankrike G2 Esports (#2-4 EU)
Usa Cloud9 (#1 NA)
Brasilien SK Gaming (#2 NA)
Usa Team Liquid (#3 NA)
Usa OpTic (#4 NA)

The finals of ECS's third season will be held in London's SEE Arena between the 23rd and 25th of June. The finals offer a whopping 660 000 USD prize purse, where 250 000 USD will be going to the eventual champions. Astralis will be looking to defending their Season 2 title, while OpTic are seeking revenge from the previous season's grand final loss.
