Match-fixing bans lifted by ESL & ESEA; new sanctions structure introduced

2
After a prohibition released on January 26 of 2015, Valve Corporation explicitly declared that the infamous ex-Ibuypower players got disregarded from all competitive play. Today, a striking statement from ESL has been announced as the players are clear to play in selected tournaments.

Not all opportunities are good

On the 20th of August, 2014, a clash between iBUYPOWER and NetcodeGuides waited, as the fifth season of the CEVO Professional League was coming to an end. Sam "DaZeD" Marine, co-founder of NetcodeGuides, had already qualified for the finals with iBUYPOWER. It therefore seemed opportune to give NetcodeGuides a significant boost.

However, with the implications of other hands like Derek "dboorN" Boorn and, amongst others, Casey "caseyfoster" Foster, it was later settled that a match-fix should take place, in order to gain an economic benefit.
It didn't take long until evidence came around on larger news agencies within esports, marked with an outburst of the community from top to bottom.

Five months later, a public letter from Valve Corporation got released pronouncing the players banned.

A small sign of hope

On the first edition of cs_summit, Braxton "swag" Pierce was admitted to play and that marked the first step towards forgiving the mistakes of the past.

More notably, questions regarding the policies of such punishment arose. Without any precedent, other professionals, such as Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, disagreed with the decision of Valve Corporation.

On the June 2, Ulrich Schulze, Vice President of Pro Gaming at ESL, released a Twitter post stating that he is, in fact, meeting up with players to discuss the match-fixing bans.

Today, the response has come.

A complete player list has now been revealed as they are now clear for play in ESL and ESEA sanctioned tournaments.

Additionally, ESIC's recommendation to sanction any match-fixing/betting fraud with a 5 year ban from competitive play.

It is merely a question of time until one of the listed players will be leaping towards the next tournament.

The decision of ESL and ESEA might be of interest for other tournament organizers, as it may awake greater opportunities in the future. Until then, it remains unclear if the concerned will ever get to take place in Valve-sponsored events ever again.

CS:GO saw a significant increase in prize money distributed during the bigger tournaments throughout 2016. But the promising development has taken a toll, with prize money stagnating during 2017, and we might even see a decrease in the total amount of money being paid out from tournaments.

In early 2016, I drew parallels between the record-breaking 2010 Natus Vincere roster and the Brazilian Luminosity team, which is now known as SK Gaming. Today, I am going to compare the 2009 fnatic team – who were knocked off their throne by that same Na`Vi squad mentioned earlier – to the restructured Faze team, featuring the deadly duo of olofmeister and GuardiaN.
