The first Quarter Final of the day put North America against South America as Team Liquid
faced off with SK Gaming
. In a match many would expect the Brazilians to win, they started off in fine form. After a close first half seeing them lead 7-8 from their CT side, they took a much easier second half 2-8 to secure a 9-16 victory and a 1-0 map lead. Moving on to Cobblestone they continued their momentum as they took a 5-10 lead on their CT half. Team Liquid weren't letting them take it away that easy however as they fired right back with a 10-5 of their own to take it to overtime. Eventually in a map that lasted 42 rounds, the North Americans took the 22-20 victory and levelled up the series 1-1. It was all to play for then on Inferno, and a crushing Terrorist side for Team Liquid saw them lead 14-1 from the first half. The Brazilians put up a better showing in their second half but it was not enough too keep Team Liquid from getting the two rounds they needed to take the map 16-7 and the series 2-1.
Next up was Faze Clan
. It was a more straightforward affair than the first, albeit with a close first map with Inferno ending 16-13 in favour of Faze. The second map was the one that really set the two teams apart as, following an 11-4 CT half, Faze took Cache 16-4 as their undoubted firepower ran riot over the Renegades. The international super team progress 2-0 to the Semi Finals.
In the penultimate Quarter Final, G2 Esports
took on Mousesports
. The first map had a fairly typical 9-6 half in favour of Mousesports on their CT side of Inferno, it was their Terrorist half that made the difference however as they ran over the French defence 7-1 and took a 16-7 victory. The second saw them continue their dominance in the first half, with an 11-4 CT side lead on Mirage. The French side weren't done yet and did manage to start a comeback, making it all the way to 11 rounds before falling 16-11 and 2-0 in the series. Strong performances from the likes of Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný
, Robin "ropz" Kool
and Miikka "suNny" Kemppi
typified the series.
Last Quarter Final of the day was Natus Vincere
up against Astralis
. After Astralis took their pick of Nuke 16-10 the expectation was for them to likely take it 2-0 if not at least 2-1. An incredibly close Inferno fell the way of Natus Vincere 14-16 however after Denis "electronic" Sharipov
finished 30-17. The final map was set to be as close as it was important however it didn't play out like that. Natus Vincere took an 11-4 lead on their CT half of Train and after winning the pistol round took a 5-1 second half to send the Danes home. This map was the Egor "flamie" Vasilyev
and Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev
show as the first finished with a 2.00 rating and 122 ADR with the second following close behind.
