Legends reunite in nostalgia tournament

9
Inferno Online will be filled with familiar faces this weekend, as ex-professional players will get together and compete in a Counter-Strike tournament for the first time in ages.
This Saturday, the 9th of April, Inferno Online will act as venue when well-known blasts from the past will play a tournament named CS Reunion @ Inferno Online. About 60 former professional players, mostly Swedish, from the years 2003-2007 will blow the dust off their mouse to play said nostalgia tournament.

The initiative comes from DreamHack's Tomas "greykarn" Lyckedal, who used to play in the Swedish top scene some years after the new millennium. He says that the idea behind the event is to get the feeling that you're watching a tournament which could very well have been hosted ten years ago.

"It's gonna be fun. The idea was the recreate a tournament with old school players from the active teams around 2003-2007, but in CS:GO. But most of all, it'll be amazing to meet all the people who met at Rendezvous, ESWC- and WCG-qualifiers and SEL playoffs", Lyckedal says.

The teams will play the most recent version of Counter-Strike, CS:GO, which was decided through a poll amongst the participants. This, aside from the fact that Inferno Online looks nothing like it used to, will be the only difference from a classic tournament.

"The feedback has been fantastic, and I think it's going to be a great night. Mostly, I'd like to thank Inferno Online (Anton, Sam, Pani, Fabian and all the others) for supporting a fun thing like this. I also want to thank Vilden, Fisker, Vesslan and more for their help collecting players for this."

You probably noticed some of the names in Lyckedal's statement above. Christian "vilden" Lidström, Christer "fisker" Eriksson and Johan "vesslan" Rydman are only three of the many legends who will attend the event. We're going to see the SK Gaming team from 2003, an old Eyeballers lineup, former Team9/Adrenaline and many many more this weekend.

Please note that the team names have no connection to any active organization.

It's expected to see some more names join the list of mix team players, as the organizer is looking for more interested Swedes who played in the top scene back in the day.

The tournament will start with a group stage at 12:00 on Saturday. There, the twelve participating teams will be split up into two groups with six teams in each. In the end of the group stage, two teams from each group will advance to the single elimination playoffs towards the evening. All games will be played BO1.

If you're in Stockholm and want to visit the event at Inferno Online Odenplan, that's more than okay. If you're not as lucky, you can still follow some hand-picked matches via a live stream casted by Fredrik "slop3" Wahlstedt and Fabian "blomstar" Åkermark. A specific schedule and match-ups will be released closer to the tournament.

Which team will win CS Reunion @ Inferno Online?
