Heroic and Space Soldiers qualify for ESL One Cologne

1
Despite undergoing a roster change on the deciding day of matches, Heroic made their way through the European qualifiers for ESL One Cologne without dropping a single map. Similarly, the Turkish Space Soldiers roster also impressed.
The final day of ESL One Cologne's European qualifier saw two unlikely names advance to the 250,000 USD event, as Heroic and Space Soldiers made their way past the stacked field.

While a total of seven swedes were present in the qualifier, only one was able to go the full distance, as Andreas "MODDII" Fridh's Heroic were able to defeat BIG, as well as Team Dignitas on the qualifier's second day. While the Danish-Swedish roster has consistently placed well at international LAN events throughout the year, the squad had additional pressure placed upon it, as founding member Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså was benched mere hours before the start of the qualifier's second day.

But despite having such a short time to prepare for the games with stand-in Casper "cadiaN" Møller, Heroic didn't lose a single map against BIG or Team Dignitas.

Denmark Heroic vs. Germany BIG
Heroic: cadiaN, JUGi, MODDII, niko, Snappi
BIG: gob b, keev, LEGIJA, nex, tabseN
Denmark Heroic vs. Norway Team Dignitas
Heroic: cadiaN, JUGi, MODDII, niko, Snappi
Dignitas: cromen, fox, jkaem, RUBINO, tenzki

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the bracket, Space Soldiers proceeded to win against two far more established rosters than their own.

Facing off against EnVyUs in the quarterfinals, one of the top rosters from France, Space Soldiers proceeded to defeat the French team in two straight maps. With their French adversaries behind them, Space Soldiers' momentum carried over when the Turkish team faced their final opponents in GODSENT. The Swedish roster, which has struggled to achieve any noteworthy results throughout 2017, also proved to be unable to stop Space Soldiers, as GODSENT were also defeated in two straight maps.

France EnVyUs vs. Turkey Space Soldiers
EnVyUs: Happy, RpK, ScreaM, SIXER, xms
Space Soldiers: Calyx, DESPE, MAJ3R, pax, XANTARES
Sweden Godsent vs. Turkey Space Soldiers
Godsent: disco doplan, Lekr0, pronax, twist, znajder
Space Soldiers: Calyx, DESPE, MAJ3R, pax, XANTARES

Team Liquid heads to Cologne

Aside from Heroic and Space Soldiers, Team Liquid were also able to secure their spot at the event, meaning all but one slot present at the event has been filled.
