IEM Oakland — Day two; Ninjas in Pyjamas top Group A, Faze top Group B

1
The second mammoth day of group stage play took place over the last eight or so hours, and we now have our finalised group standings.
After another day of fighting, we have the standings for Group A and our first two quarter-finalists and one semi-finalist. Ninjas in Pyjamas started the day out strong with a convincing victory over Cloud9 before an equally strong destruction of The MongolZ. A much closer game was to be their final of the day, however it was still another victory for the Swedish team against Team Envyus , securing the number 1 spot in the group and their ticket to the semi-finals.

The day was not so straightforward for all though, as some results included yet another tense overtime, this time between SK Gaming and Astralis, in which the Danes were triumphant. This win, and another, could not save them however due to the previous day's results leaving them one point shy of making the quarter-finals. Instead, we end up with both SK Gaming and Cloud9 moving through.

Group A Final Standings:
Ninjas in Pyjamas (12 points - Semi-Finals)
Cloud9 (9 points - Quarter-Finals)
SK Gaming (9 points - Quarter Finals)
Astralis (8 points - Eliminated)
Team Envyus (7 points - Eliminated)
The MongolZ (0 points - Eliminated)

Group B found its winner in Faze Clan as, despite starting the day with a crushing 16-3 loss to Gambit Esports, a win over Team Liquid in the last game of the day was enough to see them top the group and move straight through to the semi-finals. Gambit themselves found a spot in the quarter-finals with two victories for the day, including the aforementioned demolition of Faze and a win over Renegades in their last game.

Despite incredible performances at this event, Renegades could not scrape together enough points to hold on to a spot in the quarter-finals as Optic Gaming pull off a hard fought victory over G2 Esports to send Renegades home.

Group B Final Standings:
Faze Clan (12 Points - Semi-Finals)
Optic Gaming (9 points - Quarter Finals)
Gambit Esports (8 points - Quater-Finals)
Renegades (7 points - Eliminated)
G2 Esports (5 points - Eliminated)
Team Liquid (4 points - Eliminated)
