IEM Oakland — Ninjas in Pyjamas take down SK Gaming

1
The first semi-final at IEM Oakland 2017, being held in the Oracle Arena sees a replay of the Grand Final of last year's IEM Oakland, in which the Swedish Ninjas in Pyjamas overcame the Brazilians of SK Gaming.
As the map vetos were made, it was said that Ninjas in Pyjamas got the better of the map battle, with SK Gaming opting to choose Overpass, NiP selected Cache and Inferno was left to be the decider if required.

A strong start from the Brazilians see them go 0-5 up, the Ninja's first round comes cutesy of a 4k from their in-game leader Richard "Xizt" Landström, including a lovely spray transfer to clutch the 1v2; they lost the following two rounds making it 1-7 to SK Gaming. However it just seemed like a confidence issue for the Swedes, once they managed to get their second round on the board there was no stopping them as they closed out the remainder of the rounds in the first half. Despite losing the pistol round the Swedish team showed little respect for their opponents on the CT side only allowing 2 rounds to slip, taking the eventual victory 16-9.

SK Gaming gifted the Swedes their second round of Cache in the 6th round after a miscalculation on the defuse time, however they did manage to take the following round and reset their opponents economy. After a fairly quiet first map Fredrik "REZ" Sterner came into his own on the T-side of Cache, being able to open up many rounds from squeaky door. The half ended 8-7 in favor of SK Gaming. The Swedes won their first pistol of the Semi-Final thanks to an excellent clutch from Rez, but that was all they could manage as the Brazilians managed to sweep the rest of the half, 16-8.

With both teams taking their opponents maps, we require Inferno to decide which team will make it to the Grand Final of IEM Oakland 2017. The first half was a back and forth affair that ended 8-7 in favor of the Ninjas in Pyjamas. A good lead is built up by NiP Gaming as they win the first 5 rounds of the second half. It started to look a little like it could either way at the midway point of the second half, but a force buy from the Ninjas was enough to turn the tide in their favor.

NiP Gaming, the defending champions, have booked their spot in the IEM Oakland 2017 Grand Final
