ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals — Day 1 Group B

1
After Group A came to an end for the day, it was time to turn attentions to Group B, with the group stage being spread over two days.
The first two games in Odense, Denmark in Group B for the ESL Pro League saw the world number 1 SK Gaming taking on Danish side North, whilst two North American teams, NRG Esports and Misfits faced each other. For both matches it was to be Overpass on which the battles were fought. Neither game required the new overtime point ruling as both were ended in regulation time, with SK Gaming and Misfits winning their games.

Next up sees Adam "friberg" Friberg and Aleksi "allu" Jalli take on their old teammates in Ninjas in Pyjamas as they face Optic Gaming. The chosen map of Cobblestone is not one we see Optic play, and has been a favorite of the Swedes since coach Threat joined the organisation. The Ninjas came out on top in a very close game, which ended 16-14, with Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund the best player in the server.

The Danes of North were looking to make a comeback after falling to the Brazilians of SK Gaming in their first game of the day, as they faced Misfits. In what has to be considered an upset however, the North American lineup were able to win 16 rounds to 9, with Hunter "SicK" Mims ending the game 29-13.

The penultimate games of the day have NRG taking on the Ninjas in Pyjamas, and SK Gaming taking on Optic. If we go off the rankings then the results should be a foregone conclusion, but games are not won on paper. Mirage is the map for the game featuring SK Gaming, who finish their T-half 9 rounds to 6, but the mixed European team are able to battle back, winning 10-5 on their Terrorist side and therefore take the victory!

It is the underdogs who are on form today, as NRG take the first half on Overpass 9-6. The game featured many kills, four players managed 26 kills, and William "draken" Sundin managed 27. But it was the Dane Allan "AnJ" Jensen, back on home soil who was able to secure the highest ADR and highest rating. With the game coming down to the wire, it was NRG who claim the upset and defeat the IEM Oakland champions 16 rounds to 14.

As we move into the final two games of the day we see North hunting for their first win of the finals on home soil as they take on NRG, and Misfits who are yet to lose taking on Optic. Prior to this event it would be suggested that both Optic and North are favorites in their matches, however we have seen a few unexpected results and these games could go either way. A huge performance from Cvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov who got himself 30 kills against the Danes as he helped NRG to a 16-6 victory. Misfits suffered their first loss of the tournament at the hands of Optic, as that game ended 16-10.

A disappointing day for North, who will be hoping they can bounce back tomorrow to save some face on home soil, but it looks like they will not be making the playoffs.
