ECS Season 4 Finals — Astralis top Group B defeating Faze in decider

1
After seeing FNATIC top Group A our attentions turned to Group B in Cancun, Mexico, which have now been played up to the Winners Match, with an impressive performance from RUBINO against Faze.
Group B's opening match sees the North American team, who finished top of the NA online season, Cloud9 taking on Astralis on Train. The first half saw Cloud9 take the pistol and the following five rounds, before the momentum swung in the direction of the Danes, and the half closed 7-8 in favor of Astralis.

The second half started once again with Cloud9 taking the pistol, and the following rounds, but once Astralis were able to get guns in their hands, and the AWP into the hands of Peter "dupreeh" Rothmann, who got 27 kills over the map, it was all over. 11 rounds to 16.

Next up was another North American side of Team Liquid, up against mixed European 'super team' Faze Clan on Mirage, with Liquid starting on the CT side. A back and forth first half sees the North Americans take the lead, with a battle between their respective star fraggers, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač doing work for their sides, with Kovač topping the server with 22 kills to 10 deaths, even though his team trailing 10 rounds to 6 at the half.

On their CT side, FaZe come into their own, shutting Team Liquid out of the half, only allowing them to pick up 3 round on the Terrorist side, one of those being the pistol. Kovač dropped a massive 40 kills to 16 deaths in 28 rounds of Counter-Strike, a phenomenal performance on LAN at this level.

Tomorrow's decider match will therefore see the two North American sides facing each other in a match they will be familiar with, as either Cloud9 or Team Liquid will be heading home from a difficult Group B.

The Group B Winner's match that many would have expected, sees the world's Number 2 and Number 3 teams go against one another, as Astralis take on FaZe to see who tops the group, and gets tomorrow off. As the match gets underway it is worth noting that Astralis are playing with Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel as a stand-in so are not up to their usual full strength.

Overpass is the map chosen, and sees Faze taking the pistol round and the two following rounds on their T side, before the Danes win the following three gun rounds despite their opponents managing to plant the bomb in all of them. The rest of the half is very back and forth, and eventually ends narrowly in favor of Astralis, 7-8 with stand in Villarroel picking up 18 kills, the most on the server.

As the second half gets underway the pistol round goes to Faze once again, but the game feels very similar to the first half, with much back and forth between the teams. A slow placed map with no team really being able to build up a substantial lead, with many eco rounds. Late into the second half and Astralis are finally able to string some rounds together, as they take three, but Faze come back and take an eco round win to stop the game going to map point. But they are only able to delay what is coming, as the Danes take it with Villarroel picking up 32 kills, as a stand-in, and go through to the semi-finals as they defeat Faze 16-13.
