Never before has Counter-Strike played host to so many incredible tournaments as it did in 2015. Last year CS:GO finally took the leap and became a staple title in arenas all over the world, and along with it we saw production value increase by each and every week. But now the unenviable task of trying to figure out which tournament that truly was the best falls upon us.
The nominees in question brought us snowy landscapes as well as palm trees and dazzling heat. Events in areas as big as they come as well as more intimate settings. What they all have in common however has been the top-notch delivery they managed to bring for both spectators at home and at the event itself.
Tournament of the yearTournament of the year will be awarded to the event which managed to provide the highest amount of entertainment through it's production value, as well as the significance of the games which took place during it's run. The live experience is also taken in consideration, meaning that the treatment of the fans in attendance and conditions for players play into our consideration.
De nominerade är... MLG X Games Aspen Aspen, Colorado, USA
MLG's first CS:GO event kicked off the year in the picturesque ski-resort Aspen, Colorado, and quickly set the standard for how a tournament should be run in 2015. With it's unique setting, with the added coolness of taking place alongside the Winter X Games, along with it's stellar production and amazing matches makes it a no-brainer to include in the list.
ESL One Katowice Katowice, Poland
When ESL for the second year in a row put on a Valve Major in Katowice, Poland, the crowd couldn't help but make the very air itself electric. The crowd showed incredible passion throughout the tournament's final stages, and it's not like their cheers weren't so loud without reason, as the final ended up being one of this year's best series overall.
ESL One Cologne Cologne, Germany
2015 gave us many good tournaments, but few could amount to the second ESL-major of the year which took place in the LANXESS Arena in Cologne, Germany. ESL:s vision was executed almost flawlessly, and provided us with one of the best live events to-date.
ESL ESEA Invitational Dubai Dubai, United Arab Emirates
ESL and ESEA arranged the most exotic event of the year in terms of location when they arranged their second joint tournament together in luxurious Dubai. Many of the best teams were in attendance and helped contribute to a great atmosphere, even though it got too hot to handle in some cases.
The final major of the year consisted of literal fire and flames. DreamHack's stage production was taken to the next level as custom LEDs, a lightshow and even pyrotechnics were synchronised with the game itself. This in conjunction with the terrific production value for the viewers at home, as well as several terrific upsets in the tournament itself, made DreamHack Cluj-Napoca one of the year's best events.
The jury, which consists of finnish esports profile Joona "natu" Leppänen, norweigan analyst Halvor "vENdetta" Gulestøl, HLTV.org's chief statsman Petar "Tgwri1s" Milovanovic and lastly Fragbite's very own editor in chief André "rich" Åkerblom, will stand for two thirds of the vote. The final part of the vote will be decided through our own community vote. In other words the community vote can come to tip a nominee over the scale in case the jury disagrees.
