Leading up to this the two Semi-Finals saw the current Major Champions Gambit Esports
taking on Vega Squadron
in a best-of-three, with Overpass, Mirage and Cache the maps chosen for the battle.
The underdogs of Vega Squadron got off to a strong start, taking their opponents map choice of Overpass away from them, winning 16-10. The momentum of the Russian squad continued into Mirage, as they took the first half 10-5, but this enraged Abay "HObbit" Khassenov
who guided his team to a 11-2 comeback in the second half, with Gambit taking the map 16-12. On decider map of Cache Gambit kept their dominance rolling storming their way to a 16-1 victory, with Bektiyar "fitch" Bahytov
standing out with a 2.33 rating.
The other semi-final saw the Australian team of Grayhound Gaming
taking on the Chinese line-up TyLoo
. However it was the Ukrainian Vlаdуslаv "bondik" Nеchуроrchuk
who is playing for the Chinese team on loan from HellRaisers
who was the star of the show, ending with 84 kills to 52 deaths over the 3 maps.
Like in the other semi-final it was the underdogs who were able to get off to a good start, with Greyhound taking Overpass 16-12. Cobblestone was another close game, with Nechyporchuk having to put in a strong performance to make up for some low ADR from other players on his team, as Tyloo take the second map narrowly 16-14. Inferno was the third and final map, with the first half narrowly going the way of the Australians with 8 rounds to 7, but Tyloo were able to have a strong second half to close out the map and the series, taking the victory 16-11.
The Grand Final of the ROG Masters 2017 sees the two highest ranking teams at the event, Gambit and Tyloo go head to head in order to walk away with the lion's share of the $235,000 prize pool, with the champions taking home $117,500 there is much to play for.
